WOLMagic

Send a Wake on LAN packet to any computer or IOT device.

1. Sends a Wake on LAN Broadcast packet to any MAC address.  This is sometimes called a Magic packet.

2. Sends ping (ICMP) messages to confirm device has started.

The Computer must be configured to support Wake-on-LAN in its BIOS/UEFI settings. TV's or other IOT devices may have a setting in their network settings to allow remote control.

Setup and use

REQUIREMENT: Local Network iOS permission is required to send the Wake on LAN (WOL) packet and preform a ping or ICMP message.

This app will ONLY use the permission for 3 functions, the Wake on Lan packet,  DNS lookup, if needed, and to preform the Ping/ICMP message.

No other network functions are used, no ping home, no logging, no scanning, nothing.

Goto preferences and enter your Device Friendly Name, MAC address and/or Fully Qualified Name.

Device Friendly Name

Any name you like to remember what the device is. For example, Office PC or Living Rm Samsung TV.

MAC Address

Required. This is how the Magic Packet Broadcast works. You must look it up and type it in format is 00:11:22:33:44:55

This can be discovered with ARP commands, but Apple iOS does not allow apps the ability to perform ARP queries. If you know how, contact me and I will see about adding the function.

IP or Host name

OPTIONAL. You ONLY need to add this if you want to send ICMP (Ping) messages to see when the device is awake. Examples are 192.168.1.76 or www.apple.com. Names and IPv4 addresses are type-checked when you send the Magic Packet.

255.255.255.255 {special case}  When the Broadcast address is used for ICMP, 0, 1 or more devices can respond.  This all depends on the end device network stack.   In any case, all ICMP replies will be listed - if any.

WOL / Magic packet burst

You can configure up to 4 WOL packets to go out in a burst when the button is pressed.  Only one is required to work. However, we found some TVs responded more consistently with 2 or more packet
